We visited Bosphorus at Cardiff bay on a rainy afternoon to do a review, we were pleasantly surprised when we walked into the venue expecting it to be all dreary and dull because of the weather, but we were very happy to find a lovely big open airy space that also had a very warm relaxed atmosphere. They have been very clever and have used their venue to its maximum by having full glass panels all-round the building, it lets in lots of light accompanied with the décor make even the dreariest of days Bosphorus a great place to eat, chat and have a great time with friends a real triumph of Cardiff bay.
Both myself and my friend went for the lunchtime menu which is extremely good value for money with an extensive choice of starters and main courses served with a basket of soft, warm freshly baked bread. ( visit http://www.eatoutin.org/cardiff/cardiff-bay/bosphorus/ for the menu!)
For starters I went for the Kalamar which is deep fried squid marinated with an herb and beer sauce, the squid was cooked to perfection it wasn’t salty at all. With it also being coated in a light batter which fell away from the squid and gave it an extra texture giving it a slight crunch! The batter was also not greasy in anyway which we all know it sometimes can be, this dish was also accompanied with a fresh salad which was light and refreshing! Also a cool dipping sauce. Over all this was a great start to the meal a lovely fish dish overlooking the water front at Cardiff bay, really enjoyed it.
My colleague opted for the Helim - this is grilled slices of holoumi cheese served with a side salad. Once again I was very impressed especially as I am usually not a huge lover of cheese. The cheese was seasoned and cooked to perfection which gave the dish an almost meaty texture, making it almost fall apart in your mouth. I found the taste of the cheese mixed with the side salad, especially the carrots, a very pleasing dish to have ordered.
For main I then went for the Pilic Kilbasti which is boneless chicken leg, seasoned with basil, whole black pepper, charcoal grilled and served with rice and a garnish of salad. To start off with this dish my favourite part is the chicken being a real meat lover, and they have out done themselves the seasoning of the basil and the whole black pepper was a marriage made in heaven! Also the chicken was cooked to perfection fell apart when I cut into and was lovely and juicy not overly cooked and dry. The rice was some of the best rice I have had in a very long time I tend to stay away from it when I am eating out as I am very particular of how it is cooked, but I thought I would give it a go. I was very pleasantly surprised when I tucked into the rice in this dish to find it was light and fluffy perfectly cooked for my liking, the dish was also accompanied by another very nice side salad which was again fresh and added a little extra to the dish.
My colleague chose the Salmon with Prawns and Mussels. My first glimpse at the dish and my mouth was watering - I didn't know where to start it all looked so delicious! All of the ingredients were clearly fresh and cooked to order (with a very quick waiting time for all courses) and smelt amazing. The whole dish again cooked and seasoned to perfection, the prawns sweet with a slight crunch, the salmon fell apart in my mouth, and the mussels were just to die for and very meaty - I could of eaten a thousand of these! The grilled vegetables were stunning to say the least - I am a huge fan of broccoli and never have I tasted it so well cooked! This was all topped off with a creamy butter sauce which finished off the dish beautifully and really brought out all of the flavours wonderfully.
All in all Bosphorus is a great place for all occasions whether it is a romantic meal for two, family gatherings, colleagues lunching or corporate dinning. What a great place to Eat Out In!
5* Star Venue.
